El dia del Watusi
From his thirteen years stealing cars in the slums of Montjuïc, to his early thirties, hustling in the alleys adjacent to Plaza Reial, to his early youth as a jack-of-all-trades for ambitious financiers in the upper-class district, Fernando Atienza travels from the late Franco era to the Transition and the Olympic dream of ’92. But no day will leave a greater mark on his biography than “the day of the Watusi”: August 15, 1971, the day he saw a corpse, or even two, for the first time. That founding moment that, from then on, would accompany him every second of the rest of his life.
