Las amistades peligrosas
Hampton’s “Dangerous Liaisons,” based on Laclos’s novel, addresses themes that remain highly relevant despite its 1782 origins. It explores the abuse of power, consent, and the corruption that allows money to buy almost anything. Through Valmont and Merteuil, morally bankrupt figures comparable to recent scandals, it shows how elites manipulate the vulnerable with impunity. The story remains timeless by revealing the use of love and sex as powerful weapons.
