Norma
Opera in two acts with music by Vincenzo Bellini and Italian libretto by Felice Romani (based on the tragedy Norma, ou L’infanticide, by Alexandre Soumet), premiered at La Scala in Milan on December 26, 1831. It is considered an example of the greatest height of the bel canto tradition. “Casta Diva” was one of the best-known arias in the 19th century and continues to be one of the most popular in the lyrical repertoire.
