THE THEATRE MAIN OF ALICANTE COMPLETES ITS PROGRAM FOR THIS SPRING.

The spring season reveals a program that includes theater, music, dance, family shows and more surprises.

The Teatro Principal of Alicante presented last November the preview of the programming for this spring. This morning at 11.30 am the Councillor for Culture Antonio Manresa, Ana Ponsoda, Regional Director Alicante Center of Banco Sabadell, Alicia Garijo, Territorial Delegate of the IVC in Alicante and the Deputy Director of the Teatro Principal, Maria Dolores Padilla have announced the 22 shows that complete its upcoming programming in a press conference that took place in the lobby of the Principal.

The Principal presents its program for this season in full so that the public has time to plan the entertainment of the coming months. As always, the Principal Theater is committed to quality, diversity and heterogeneity of their works and functions, to meet the demand of the people of Alicante, young and old. Among the shows presented that complete the programming of this spring we find theater, music, dance, opera, magic and family shows.

Manresa has stated “The programming of the Principal continues in an ascending line from 2019 and that of the months from February to June that we have just presented, is an evident proof of the quality and diversity that, in addition is accompanied by the response of the public. From the City Council of Alicante we will continue to bet on the Teatro Principal to make it a reference in our city, in our province and nationally.”

In the words of Alicia Garijo, “We believe that this new quarter is a clear example of the line that, from the IVC, we want to promote: on the one hand, that each season there is a better programming, in quantity, quality and diversity; and, secondly, that citizens feel that the Teatro Principal and the Teatre Arniches are the benchmarks of the performing arts in the city. We are pleased to see in the program the works of the choreographer and dancer from Alcoy Sol Picó or Creacción by Iratxe Ansa; directors such as Veronese or Yayo Cáceres or proposals such as Lectura fácil or Ladies Football Club, as well as Valencian proposals such as Eugeni Alemany or El Pla by the Valencian production company Olympia Metropolitana. Therefore, we welcome this new proposal full of good theater, dance and music”.

The deputy director said “Once again, the Principal presents a program designed for all audiences, with national and international productions of great artistic quality that aim to be part of the cultural agenda of the people of Alicante with a total of 52 proposals to choose from and we continue to maintain the same prices for the last 10 years.  And we continue to increase our commitment and involvement with the Institutions of our city and province as is the case of the Festival Abril en Danza”.

THE NEW PROGRAM: THEATER, MUSIC, DANCE, HUMOR and FAMILY MUSICAL. COLORS FOR ALL TASTES IN THE SPRING OF THE PRINCIPAL.

We begin with the April shows. Next Friday 14 at 20.30h the company Ron Lalá brings us the play “Villa y Marte”, by Álvaro Tato.  Directed by Yayo Cáceres and with Juan Cañas, Daniel Rovalher, Miguel Magdalena, Luis Retana and Diego Morales in the cast.

A spaceship travels to Mars to colonize the red planet. But the captain and his android Trasto discover that the planet is already inhabited when they arrive at the city of Martid, where the mutant neighbors are celebrating a popular verbena before the terrestrial aliens. To make matters worse, the captain falls in love with a postinera Martian chulapa with bewitching eyes and intends to run away with her to Venus… Villa y Marte is the reinvention of the género chico in a rumlalera key: humor, live music, theater… and chotis.

On Saturday 15 at 8 pm and Sunday April 16 at 6 pm, the company GG Producción Escénica y Teatro del Nómada comes to the Principal with the play “Los Santos Inocentes”, by Miguel Delibes in a version by Fernando Marías and Javier Hernández-Simón. Under the direction of Javier Hernández-Simón and with Javier Gutiérrez, Pepa Pedroche, Yune Nogueiras, José Fernánde, Fernando Huesca, Luís Bermejo, Raquel Varela, Jacobo Dicenta and Marta Gómez in the cast.

Los Santos Inocentes is presented to us as a mirror in which to look at ourselves. As a society. As individuals. And like all mirrors, it gives us back the reflection of our past so that we can explain our present. The image it confronts us with is raw, beautiful, savage… but above all deeply human.

We continue the month of April, the month of the Festival Abril en Danza, the Teatro Principal will bring for the first time a major production, thus increasing its contribution to the Festival. The choice of the show shared with the director of the Festival, Asun Noales. And the show we will be able to see is “CreAcción”, by Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, on Wednesday 19 at 8.30 pm. The dancers Igor Bacovich, Katie Courier, Kate Arber, Sephora Ferrillo and David Serrano. The music is provided by Juan Belda. This production has won two Max Awards for Best Choreography and Best Lighting Design, a great work by Nicolás Fischtel.

CreAcción offers a sensorial and seductive experience. The choreography moves the performers through the space with precision and skill, seeking balance, elegance and communication with the scenographic device, lighting and music, elements responsible for the enigmatic atmosphere of the piece.

A show of high artistic and technical rigor, in which virtuosity, physical work, a dynamic and attractive scenography, as well as a musical composition and lighting are also protagonists of the piece.

It is the turn of humor, on Friday April 21 at 8.30 pm Miguel Lago arrives to present his show “Lago”. Pure classic stand-up. Genuine comedy served with freedom, truth and nudity that seeks the quintessence of the format. And of course with the signature and experience of an icon of the “One Man Show”.

A journey where Miguel delivers what he has learned in his more than 20 years of experience with a collection of the most acidic, hilarious and daring routines that have ever been heard in a theater seat. This is not just a one-man show, this is not just a theater, this is not just another club. Are you ready for the experience?

We continue with more theater. On Saturday, April 22nd at 8pm the company Secuencia 3 brings us “La profesora”, by Eduardo Galán. Directed by Carla Nyman and with Isabel Ordaz and Marcial Álvarez in the cast.

Ortiz, a fishmonger in his fifties who works in a supermarket, goes to a tutor to solve the situation of his daughter Daniela. The first meeting with the tutor, América Alcalá, an almost sixty-five year old woman who does not want to retire for fear of loneliness, turns out to be a real boxing match. Throughout seven meetings until the end of the course, we witness, in the key of dramatic comedy, the meeting and rapprochement between two characters so distant in culture and age, in the midst of the conflicts posed by the daughter.

We continue with theater in Valencian. On Sunday 23 at 18h Olympia Metropolitana presents “El Pla”, by Ignasi Vidal, who also directs it. With Jordi Ballester, Diego Braguinsky and Àngel Figols in the cast.

“El Pla” is a black comedy in which its protagonists gradually shed their social masks, to take to the limit all the survival instinct and the notion of friendship. Basically, it is the story of the meeting of three friends, three colleagues in misery, three beings from the street who do not seem like fictional characters: you see people like Ramón, Ximo and Andrade every day in the bar next to your house, in your elevator or on the bus. They are common beings that nobody would notice, precisely because we are sick of seeing them. This characteristic fulfills a double function: that the laughter and identification with what we see are sincere and immediate; but also that the outcome is much more shocking and painful.

And we will celebrate the International Dance Day also with another flamenco ballet show “Eterno Picasso”, by the company Carlos Rodriguez, on Wednesday 26 at 20.30h. With the dancers Joaquín de Luz, Carlos Rodríguez, Miguel A. Berna, José Maldonado, Pablo Egea, La Lupi, Sara Calero or Estela Alonso, Mayte Bajo, Ana del Rey, Laura Funez and Cinthya Cano. With live musicians, Pedro Medina and Daniel Juradó, guitars; violin, Roberto Jabonero, singers, David Vázquez and José Luis Hernández and on percussion, Julio Alcocer.

Eterno is a show that combines Spanish dance, bolero school, flamenco, jota, classical dance, contemporary dance, and is born with the idea of capturing and expressing from the eye of the artist, what he saw and felt, how Picasso digested and turned into art? How did he try to

to catch the world with his hands, “showing that art is the lie that tells the truth. We have dared to break the rules of the usual dance shows. Like Picasso we think that to create you have to destroy.

We continue with humor in Valencian on Thursday 27 at 8.30 pm with the show “A ningú que li passe”, by Eugeni Alemany and Yolanda Martínez.

In “A ningú que li passe” the Valencian humorist Eugeni Alemany and his friend Zuleima Gonzáles share, at last, the stage. Eugeni had a pending debt with his audience. After having humorously analyzed the Valencian mothers, he had to take revenge. That is why the time has come to talk about them. The time has come to give cane to the Valencian men. Zuleima is also interested in Valencian men, but not to talk about them, precisely… Ay, mare, a ningú que li passe!!!!

We continue with more theater. On Saturday, April 29 at 8 pm comes to the Principal the play “Lectura fácil”, by Cristina García Morales. With direction and dramaturgy by Alberto San Juan and with Desirée Cascales, Carlota Gaviño, Pilar Gómez, Marcos Mayo, Anna Marchessi, Pablo Sánchez and Estefanía de los Santos in the cast.

“Easy Reading” is the theatrical adaptation of the novel of the same name by Cristina Morales. A bomb designed to explode the concept of disability and vindicate the right of all living things to govern themselves. Four women subjected to guardianship by the public welfare services. One of them escapes. A judge pursues her. An intensely comic and tragic story where the body is the center of everything, the place of oppression and the only place from which it is possible to emancipate oneself.

We end the month of April with the concert for the “International Jazz Day Alicante 2023” on Sunday 30 at 19h. The Liz Vallet Cultural Association brings us the twelfth edition of the collective and charity concert with dozens of local, national and international musicians to celebrate the International Jazz Day sponsored by UNESCO every April 30.

Headed by its director general Audrey Azoulay and legendary pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and director of the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz (formerly the Thelonious Monk Institute), this event is celebrated in more than 200 countries.

We begin May with the play “La vida es sueño”, by Calderón de la Barca, on Friday 5 at 8:30 pm. The Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, LAZONA company and Cheek by Jowl bring us this play in a version by Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod. Directed by Declan Donnellan, the cast includes Prince Ezeanyim, David Luque, Rebeca Matellán, Manuel Moya, Alfredo Noval, Goizalde Núñez, Antonio Prieto and Irene Serrano.

A prince chained to a mountain. A young woman disguised as a man in search of revenge. Revolution, love, murder… but in “La vida es sueño” is the real thing really real? Or is it all a dream?

Director Declan Donnellan and designer Nick Ormerod bring their characteristic spirit to this play by Calderón de la Barca, the most famous of the Spanish Golden Age, giving priority to the actor, the text and the space. A green wall of doors welcomes the audience.

When the lights go out, a relationship is established between the actor and the audience. We hear Calderón in our ear, asking: “What is life?” And his answer: “An illusion, a shadow, a fiction. Because all life is a dream, and dreams, dreams are.”

On Saturday, May 6 at 8 pm, the Centro Dramático Nacional and Lantia Escénica bring us “The Process”, a play based on the novel by Franz Kafka and directed by Ernesto Caballero. The cast includes Felipe Ansola, Olivia Baglivi, Jorge Basanta, Carlos Hipólito, Alberto Jiménez, Paco Ochoa, Ainhoa Santamaría and Juan Carlos Talavera.

One morning two civil servants show up at the pension where the bank manager Josef K. lives to inform him that a judicial proceeding has just been opened against him, the cause of which they do not know. They tell him that he must go to court immediately to clarify his situation. From that moment on, K’s life will be caught up in an absurd and interminable process which, as one of the members of the court points out, includes the defendant’s own conviction.

The May program continues on Sunday 7 at 6 pm with the family musical “Mulan”, by Sergio Escribano and Omar Ruiz.

The Row Company presents this musical based on the story of this brave young girl born in China, who decides to fight against the army of the Huns posing as a man to save his father. Chinese shadows, imperial palaces, martial arts, Chinese dragons, ancestral statues that come to life… All the costumes have been designed with fabrics and colors so that the spectator is totally immersed in Chinese culture.

After captivating the Gran Via in Madrid and Barcelona with full houses, monopolizing sections in high audience programs and closing news of the most important televisions in the country, returns with a new production and staging. International singers and a powerful and great ROCK Band with a powerful staging and a great visual technical display will interpret the greatest songs of this famous English band.

On Saturday 13 at 8 pm and Sunday 14 at 6 pm the company Nearco Producciones brings us the play “The Spoilsport”. Written by Francis Veber, one of the most renowned playwrights in France and in other European countries

in France and other European countries, now comes the new version of this successful comedy by Josema Yuste under the direction of Marcelo Casas. The cast includes Josema Yuste, Santiago Urrialde, Maribel Lara, Vicente Renovell, Kiko Ortega and Arturo Venegas.

Sergei is a hired assassin who stays in a hotel in order to carry out one of his “assignments” with his rifle from the window. But his task will be constantly interrupted by Ramon, the guest in the next room. A very, very heavy man, who intends to commit suicide after his wife has left him.

Another dance show joins the new program. On Wednesday 17 at 20.30h the company Ilia Jivoy and Par en Danza presents “The Four Seasons”.

The four seasons with choreography by Ilia Jivoy, considered one of the best young choreographers coming from the Mariínsky Theater of St. Petersburg. In 2012, the German-born British producer, pianist and composer Max Richter released the album Recomposed by Max Richter – Vivaldi – The Four Seasons. This work, by one of the current references of classical and minimalist music, captivated the choreographer, Ilia Jivoy and inspired him to create this choreography for 16 dancers. Ilia Jivoy has received the “Hope of Russia” award, and is considered one of the best young choreographers of his generation.

We also have a humor show in the month of May. On Friday 19 at 20,30h “La Ruina” comes to the Principal. A show in which both attendees and special guests share in public their most embarrassing anecdote: that time their partner left them by whatsapp, when they fell asleep in an important meeting, a misunderstanding with a cab driver… The typical anecdote that friends always ask you to tell at dinner parties.

In La Ruina we laugh, yes, but somehow we also do group therapy to see that we all have a loser inside. The comedians and scriptwriters Ignasi Taltavull & Tomàs Fuentes conduct the show, accompanied by a guest who will help them comment on the anecdotes of that night.

We continue with more theater. On Saturday 20 at 8 pm FOCUS presents “Bananas, Peanuts and Gone with the Wind”, by Ron Hutchinson with version and direction by José Troncoso. This play features Gonzalo de Castro, Pedro Mari Sánchez, José Bustos and Carmen Barrantes in the cast.

The filming of “Gone with the Wind” is a real disaster. The film producer, David O. Selznick, has decided to put the brakes on it so that he can get it back on track and make sure that the film is the one he always dreamed of. But time is against him and every second of stoppage is costing him a fortune. Accompanied by his sharp and infallible secretary, Miss Poppenghul, he decides to summon to his office two greats of the time to try to resolve the situation: his great friend and excellent screenwriter, Ben Hetch, and the talented but impossible director, Victor Fleming.

On Sunday, May 21 at 7 pm TEADA brings us “Dentro de una hora”, by Juan Luis Mira Candel. With Ana Arrarte, Natalia Bravo, Paco Peraile and Vicent Bonmatí in the cast. Commemorative function of the bombing of the Central Market.

We end the May program with the musical “Singing in the Rain” on Thursday 25 at 8.30 pm, Friday 26 and Saturday 27 at 6 pm and 10 pm and Sunday 28 at 5.30 pm and 9 pm. The company Nostromo Live brings us this musical directed by Àngel Llàcer.

Singing in the Rain is known as one of the best musical films of all time. A love story set in the irruption of sound films in Hollywood, which shows all the formal and aesthetic elegance characteristic of the 20’s. A musical comedy full of winks to film, humor and sensitivity, accompanied by spectacular dance numbers.

And in June, a lot of humor at the Principal. On Friday 2 at 8.30 pm Ignatius returns with his show “La comedia salvó mi vida” (Comedy saved my life).

Ignatius Farray, will tell from his heart his experiences and opinions with the faith that laughter, sooner or later, will come. With more than 12 years doing Stand-up Comedy, he still believes that this is the most genuine and true style of comedy, precisely because of the personal involvement that one is supposed to have with the things that are said or told on stage.

On Friday 9th at 8.30 pm Luis Zahera presents his show “Chungo”. Luis Zahera recognized and award-winning Galician actor reviews his career with the monologue “Chungo”.
